Introduction:
Manual shipping allows you to enter specific shipping criteria for your online store. Use manual shipping when you cannot use a real-time shipping method because:
- you ship from a country where the Mall23 real-time shipping methods do not apply
- your online store shipping requirements differ from the standard real-time shipping costs
Mall23 comes with a shipping entry for all 50 US States. If you do not plan on shipping to the USA you may replace these with your own entries.
To add or edit a shipping entry you would log into the manager and click on Shipping Manager. Then click on Manual Shipping. If you are editing an entry, find it and click on it. To add an entry, click the Add Shipping Type link in the top navigation.
Adding or Editing entries is done in two parts, for the first part, the store will ask for several pieces of information:
- The country the product is being shipped to (required)
- The state/provience/territory (required, but may be set as exempt in the next step)
- The postal code (optional)
Once you click Continue to Step 2, you will be asked for additional information:
- Description - this is what the customer sees when they are given the selection of available shipping methods
- Shipment time - this is your best estimate as how long it takes to ship to this location
- Customer type - you may optionally choose to limit this shipping entry to either Retail or Wholesale customers
- Quantity from and Until - this allows you to set limits on the number of products in the customers cart to be allowed to use this shipping method. Some cases require that if a customer enters more than 20 (for example) items, you add an additional $10 to all shipping methods. In that case you would create two shipping entries: one for 1-20 products and the more expensive method for 20+ products.
- Weight from and Until - this is similar to the Quantity filter, but this applies to the overall weight of the cart. When you enter products into the store, you are able to enter each products weight. Those numbers are used when checking for this. The overall weight of the cart must fall within the limit you set in order for the customer to use this shipping entry.
- Total price From and Until - again, this is similar to the above two filters, except this applies to the order total
- Percentage to add - this determines how much more a customer pays to use this shipping entry. If a number other than 0 is entered here, the shipping amount will be calculated based on the order subtotal (before taxes, after discounts).
- Fixed price to add - you may choose to give this shipping entry a fixed price rather than a percentage cost. If you would like to charge, say, a flat $10 for this shipping entry, leave the percentage at 0 and enter 10 into this field.
- State/Provience/Territory - Choose the territory for this shipping entry. By checking the Equal? checkbox, you are saying that the customers shipping address must be in this territory. This is an additional filter. If you do not check the checkbox then the territory is ignored.
- Post Code - this was entered on the previous screen. There is another Equal? checkbox under it. By checking this, only customers who ship to this postal code will be able to select this shipping entry. This can help narrow your filter to smaller regions of the country.
- Country - this was also entered in the previous screen. You may check the Equal? checkbox to ensure that the customer is shipping to this country before they see this shipping entry.
